Peter J. Shayman joined the Law Office of Miriam Cooper and Associates, LLC in 2021 as an associate attorney and represents clients in family law cases including dissolution of marriage, property division, maintenance and alimony, child support, parenting time and visitation, allocation of parental responsibilities and child custody. Additionally, he handles orders of protection and administrative matters involving the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) in Cook County, Lake County, DuPage County and Kane County. Prior to joining the Law Office of Miriam Cooper and Associates, LLC, Peter worked as a family law and criminal defense attorney in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Peter was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs. He graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, and attended law school at DePaul University College of Law. During law school, Peter worked as a law clerk at a prestigious personal injury firm in Downtown Chicago, assisting with research and preparation of documents for many high-profile cases. When he is not at work, Peter enjoys spending time going for walks and playing with his goldendoodle, Wren, as well as playing competitive ultimate frisbee.
Peter is licensed to practice law in Illinois and Iowa and is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Iowa State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, and the Northwest Suburban Bar Association.
